Ipswich Town talent Cameron Humphreys has thanked everyone at Wycombe Wanderers after his loan spell came to an end with a heartbreaking play-off defeat.

Having flirted with the top two in League One for much of the season, Wanderers were dumped out by Charlton at the semi-final stage last night, Matty Godden's 81st minute goal enough to settle the two-legged tie.

It's a sad end to what has been a brilliant season for Humphreys, the 21-year-old dubbed the 'Suffolk Messi' by Wycombe fans. He's scored seven goals in 50 games, and won the club's young player of the year award.

Speaking to the club's media team after the defeat, Humphreys admitted: “It’s gutting, isn’t it?

"I’ve had the privilege of doing some very good interviews this season, this one is definitely the hardest one because the mood in there isn’t great as you can imagine.

“But we’ve given it our all. The whole season I’ve tried to do the best I can for the team, work as hard as I can and put it all in and hopefully I did that.

“I think the team did exactly the same till the last minute, working as hard as they can. It’s not easy to sum up at the minute.

“Emotions are very raw, but it’s a frustrating one.”

He added: “It’s definitely a learning curve for me, but the whole team as well.

“I’ve had some good days here and really enjoyed my time. When I look back on it in a couple of weeks it will be a really good season personally and for the club, but right now I’m gutted, very disappointed.

“There wasn’t much in either game. We had a moment, they had a moment and they took theirs.

“But when I look back on it as a whole, it’s been a good season.”

Humphreys also singled out the club's fans for special thanks.

He enthused: “I would like to thank them, not just for today, but for the whole season.

"They’ve been really good to me, so I would like to thank them.

“What sums them up is that we’ve lost the game, we’re out, their (Charlton) fans are running over and we’re still hearing them singing, still hearing them chanting.

“So thank you from me and the players.”

Of his loan spell overall, the midfielder concluded: “I’ve thanked the fans and I want to thank all of you guys as well, the staff, all my team-mates welcomed me in really well, we’re lucky to have a good senior group and some good young players as well.

“So I thank everyone connected to the club, I’ve really, really enjoyed my time here and when I look back on it in a few weeks it will be a really good season for me and I have really enjoyed it.

“It’s just obviously a shame that it’s ended how it has.”
