Liverpool are in advanced talks to seal a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong and he will “bring bags of creativity” to the team.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him in the last hours about the pursuit of Frimpong.

A full agreement is almost in place between all parties, with a growing belief that it is now a matter of when not if the 24-year-old arrives at Anfield.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 14 May that Liverpool have verbally agreed terms with Frimpong and are edging closer to the move.

The wing-back has a £29.6million release clause in his Leverkusen contract, which is seen as a bargain deal for the Reds given the usual price expectation for a player of his ability.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in March that Liverpool were interested in Frimpong, while Man United also held an initial interest.

The wing-back is set to add further creativity to Arne Slot’s side, having racked up 12 assists so far this season compared to the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold’s eight.

O’Rourke explained that Frimpong’s pace, creativity and experience at the highest level are seen as valuable assets to this Liverpool team.

“The deal for Jeremie Frimpong to move to Anfield is looking ever-closer,” he told Football Insider.

“They’re advancing in discussions between the player and his representatives.

“Pretty much everything is in place for the deal to happen.

“He’s got a release clause at Bayer Leverkusen for just under £30million, which looks a good deal on paper at that price.

“You would expect it to happen pretty soon, within days, and it seems like it’s a matter of when and not if.

“He’s been playing as a wing-back for Leverkusen and has been very effective in that role.

“They’re bringing in a proven player in Frimpong, who has played at the highest level for Leverkusen and is also a regular in the Dutch national team.

“He’s got loads of pace and loads of creativity, so he’ll add something to this Liverpool side.”

Arne Slot eyes two forward signings after Rodrygo latest

The addition of a new right-back became a priority after Alexander-Arnold announced he would be leaving Anfield at the end of the season.

With Frimpong’s arrival edging closer, Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool are now aiming to sign two forwards including Madrid star Rodrygo.

Amid concerns about his current attacking options, Slot wants to bring in a top-class centre-forward and left-winger to play alongside Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool made a move to sign Rodrygo as a 16-year-old before his move to Madrid, and could now be prepared to reignite that interest this summer.
