Mizzou guard Tamar Bates turned in a strong showing in his second 5-on-5 scrimmage at the NBA Draft Combine on Thursday in Chicago.
Competing for Team Williams, Bates tallied 19 points, two rebounds, an assist and two steals on 7-for-8 shooting from the field and a 4-for-5 clip from 3 in a 106-90 win over Team Domercant.
The performance starkly contrasted the senior’s NBA Draft Combine 5-on-5 scrimmage debut, where he posted only three points, one rebound and a steal on 1-for-6 shooting in Team Williams’ 83-80 loss to Team Mueller on Wednesday.
In shooting drills Tuesday, Bates went 17-for-30 on off-the-dribble shots, 18-for-25 on spot-ups, 19-for-25 in the 3-point star, 17-for-24 on 3-point side and 7-for-10 on free throws.
Bates’ 3-point star clip of 76% tied Gonzaga guard Ryan Nembhard for first place out of all participants.
Bates continues his combine play until Sunday.
He received the invite for being one of the top-5 performers at the NBA G League Elite Camp from May 9-11 in Chicago.
“I’m just glad I had the opportunity to come out here and show what I can do,” Bates said in a postgame interview Thursday on ESPN+. “I was downstairs grabbing food, and my mom and my daughter answered the door, and my mom thought they were pranking me (regarding the invite to the NBA Draft Combine).”
