Liverpool plot audacious move for £100 million star

With the Premier League title secured, those in charge of Liverpool’s recruitment will now be looking ahead to this summer’s transfer window.

The Reds were particularly quiet during last summer’s window, with Federico Chiesa the only addition to the squad that Arne Slot inherited from Jurgen Klopp.

Slot will likely want to bolster his squad before the start of next season, particularly with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to depart Anfield at the end of the current campaign.

Now, it has emerged that the Merseyside outfit are plotting an audacious move to sign one of the world’s most highly-rated attackers.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have planned talks about a potential move to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.

The attacking midfielder joined Leverkusen’s youth setup from Koln in 2020 and has since established himself as one of the most impressive players in the German top flight.

In total the 22-year-old has played 196 times for Leverkusen across all competitions, scoring 57 goals and providing 65 assists.

This season the attacker has registered a combined 31 goals and assists in 44 matches for Xabi Alonso’s side.

That form has seen a number of clubs show interest in the midfielder, but the report claims that he would likely cost in the region of £100 million if he were to depart his current club.

Wirtz is under contract at Leverkusen until the end of the 2026/27 season, and the report claims that German champions Bayern Munich – who prevented Leverkusen from retaining their crown this season – are also interested in the player.

Liverpool may be at an advantage in the race to sign him, though, as Leverkusen are reluctant to allow the Germany international to join one of their direct rivals and would instead be more likely to sell to a club in the Premier League.
