Jamie Vardy told 'somewhere like that' amid Man United transfer advice

Jamie Vardy has been backed to mark his 500th – and final – Leicester City appearance by scoring his 200th Foxes goal against Ipswich Town on Sunday (3pm kick-off)

The 38-year-old will leave the King Power Stadium at the end of his 13th season with the club, a run that has seen him win the Premier League, the FA Cup and establish himself as one of the best players in City’s history.

Even though he won’t play in the final game at Bournemouth, he has already said he won’t be hanging up his boots and that he intends to play-on – albeit he is not yet sure where.

Pundit – and himself a former Premier League winner – Ray Parlour has suggested Vardy should return to the club he supports, Sheffield Wednesday.

Parlour told talkSPORT: “I like stories like Jamie Vardy's where he started non-league and he came in very late, didn't he? But what a career, longevity, but it's a sad day for him because Leicester's in his heart.

“That Premier League win with Kante, Mahrez, Vardy, the guys at the back as well, was brilliant and that'll always go down and for me as one of the biggest achievements in Premier League history because they were 5000-1.

“That means they should be in a relegation battle and they end up winning the league, it's a great story.

“It shows you that there's always hope for someone out there, if you're playing non-league football, you get a few knock-backs, always keep believing in yourself and keep coming back and trying a little bit harder, and he's done that and he's got his move from Fleetwood to Leicester.

“A great career and it's nice to see people from non-league football getting an opportunity. It's good to see that he's gone up the ladder and he's at the top of the ladder now, a fantastic career.”

Asked about the suggestion from talkSPORT colleague Hugh Woozencroft that Manchester United should make a move for Vardy, Parlour believes that is ‘a stretch too far’. Instead he pointed to his first club, or newly-promoted Wrexham.

“I think he supports Sheffield Wednesday? Maybe somewhere like that [in the] Championship,” he said.

“It's all down to Jamie what he wants to do, you want to try and play as long as you can.

while your body can still do it, keep going as long as you can.

“As soon as you wake up one morning and it's getting tough and you're feeling in your body, that's the day to retire. But I still think he's got so much to offer, and I think wherever he goes he'll score goals.

“I'm sure lots of clubs would be really interested in signing him, wherever he goes he brings something to their side, definitely. He'll score this weekend.”
