Arne Slot discusses Liverpool transfer interest in Jeremie Frimpong

Arne Slot was asked about Liverpool's transfer interest in Jeremie Frimpong in Friday's pre-match press conference.

The Reds [are ready to match Frimpong's €35 million ($40M) buyout clause](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/breaking-liverpool-advanced-talks-over-31646930) and provide Liverpool with an immediate replacement for the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold.

But, when asked about the right-back situation, Slot, unsurprisingly failed to be drawn on the matter.

"I think, again, it is going to be a boring answer," he replied. "For all season, it was about the contract extensions of three players, and and now we arriving in the period when everyone wants to know who we're bringing in.

The answer is the same, we don't think about the players we want to bring in, in public, until the moment they have signed for us and then you can ask me everything about them.

"What I can tell you is that we already have Conor Bradley, who plays really good in that position. We have Joe Gomez, who has played in that position multiple times.

"It is not like when Trent leaves, I don’t know what to do anymore. But as a club, we are always looking for interesting players who can strengthen our squad. That is in general, I am not taking about individuals."

Asked about summer transfer plans and whether any players are playing for their place in the squad, Slot said: "I don’t think it would be fair to any player you have worked with all season to change your opinion on one or two games.

"My mind has been made up for 10 months. We know the quality of our players. The game against Brighton is not make up our mind on players.

"I have said many times that we are happy with the players that we have got. But sometimes players who have not played much want to play more next season.

"This club has always strengthened the squad - if we feel we can strengthen it we will. But it is difficult to strengthen this squad. This is why we won the league."

Slot was not asked about Florian Wirtz, despite reports in Germany that he spoke to Liverpool representatives in midweek. However, Liverpool.com understands no in-person meeting took place on Tuesday.

The Reds do hold interest in the 22-year-old but given the expectation that he will remain in Germany, and Leverkusen's asking price, a move seems unlikely for Wirtz.
