Manchester United centre-forward Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly emerged as a serious target for Inter Milan ahead of the summer transfer window.

Zirkzee arrived at Old Trafford last summer following the European Championships in Germany. While his goalscoring return at Bologna that season was modest, the Dutchman did manage to bag 11 goals in Serie A before making the move to United.

This season has been a rollercoaster for Zirkzee but it began perfectly as he scored a winner on debut to beat Fulham at Old Trafford. He then proceeded not to score another goal in the Premier League until his brace in the 4-0 hammering of Everton.

Over Christmas, Zirkzee's spell at the club hit its lowest ebb when he was jeered off the pitch by home supporters as he was replaced before half-time in the defeat to Newcastle. From there, he managed to resurrect himself somewhat as he scored crucial goals in the Europa League and found his feet in the deeper No.10 role.

Sadly, his progress was cut short when in the reverse fixture against Newcastle at St James' Park he pulled up with a hamstring injury which has ended his season. Despite not having everything his own way, Inter appear to be keen on the forward.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Milan club are preparing an approach for Zirkzee to bolster their attack. It is believed that Inter would want to sign the Dutchman on loan initially for the season before activating an option to buy clause valued at £35m plus bonuses.

Considering how Zirkzee has adapted to the 3-4-2-1 system, it is unclear whether United would be tempted by this proposal. As for the 23-year-old, he could have his head turned by a club like Inter who are just one game away from winning the Champions League and could still end this season winning the Serie A title too.
