Goodison Park’s future has caused controversy at Everton over the past week.
This Sunday, the Toffees are set to play their last Premier League match at Goodison Park when they face Southampton.
It will no doubt be a sad affair for many of the Everton faithful as they leave the ground that has been their home for over a century.
However, with plans to hand over Goodison Park to Everton Women, the Toffees fanbase has been criticised for supporting The Friedkin Group’s decision.

Everton fans criticised amid claims Goodison Park will be ‘abandoned within a year’
With Everton set to move to Bramley-Moore Dock this summer, plans have been made for Goodison Park to become the women’s stadium next season.
MORE TOFFEES STORIES
Giving Goodison Park to Everton Women has been widely praised, as not only does it keep the iconic stadium in service, but it also helps boost the profile of the women’s game.
However, not everyone feels that this plan is a good idea.
Finance expert Stefan Borson has slammed the decision to make Goodison Park the Everton Women’s ground, stating that it is not financially viable.
Now, Borson has blasted the Toffees fanbase, calling them “pathetically sensitive” after supporters reacted to his claim.
After his post about Goodison Park, one fan questioned how often Boron writes about Everton, in an angry reaction to his claim.
Borson then replied on X (16 May): “No other fan base is as pathetically sensitive as yours.
“Whats up? You can’t take any comment at all that might not be completely fawning? You don’t agree – big deal. I talk and write about most PL clubs.”

Time will tell if Everton’s plan with Goodison Park works
Borson’s concerns about attendances at Goodison Park next season are valid.
The stadium currently holds 39,572, yet Everton Women’s average attendance this campaign has been just over 2,000.

Everton Women’s home attendances have been low compared to Goodison Park’s size
While there are plans to reduce the capacity at Goodison Park, there could still be a glaring number of empty seats next season.
However, the women’s game is only on the rise, and if the Toffees stick at it, they could be well ahead of the curve and be rewarded finically in the future.
