'Very confident' - Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United set to 'advance' on first summer…

Man Utd want to get their business done early in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are hopeful they will strike a transfer agreement for Matheus Cunha in the coming weeks as they look to continue their rebuild under Ruben Amorim. United have prioritised the addition of an attacking midfielder and a striker to their squad this summer, with Cunha identified as their top target for the midfield role.

The 25-year-old has shone for Wolves this season with 15 goals and six assists in the Premier League and is eager to test himself at a bigger club next season. Cunha insisted on a £62.5 million release clause in his Wolves deal when he signed a new contract with the club at the start of the year.

Cunha's release clause should make the deal rather straightforward to complete, though there is still work to be done with regards to his own personal terms and whether Wolves would allow the transfer fee to be paid in installments rather than one large upfront amount.

Fabrizio Romano issues Matheus Cunha update

There is still hope Matheus Cunha will become the first Manchester United signing of the summer transfer window, with the move not dependent on their success in the Europa League final. The Brazilian would obviously prefer to play Champions League football next season but appreciates a move to Old Trafford would be a huge step forward in his career regardless of whether they play European football.

A move for Cunha was reportedly close to completion a matter of weeks ago, but has since gone quiet as both clubs focused on the end of their respective campaigns. It doesn't mean anything has gone wrong, though, and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano expects movement on the deal in the next few days.

"I will say to Man United fans, relax a bit on this one!" he said on his YouTube channel. "Yes there was a feeling two or three weeks ago that it'd happen in a few weeks time, but it always takes time to prepare contracts, speak to agents and Wolves about the terms.

"They also need to find an agreement on payment terms. United are working on it, they have a very good relationship with Cunha. Now it's time to sort the details of the agreement, Man United remain very confident despite interest from other teams. We expect Man United to advance on this one in the next days. From what I've always heard, it's not about Champions League football or the Europa League final, it's about completing the contract agreement."
