Manchester Evening News readers have been voicing their opinions on Marcus Rashford's future at Manchester United, with the club reportedly expecting him to move abroad this summer and not planning to bring him back into the fold. The fanbase has shown mixed reactions in the comments section.
Rashford, aged 27, who went on loan to Aston Villa in February, has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury for the past three weeks. With a price tag of £40 million, Rashford is up for grabs, but Villa does not hold first refusal rights on the England striker.
Senior figures at United have confirmed that Rashford does not feature in their plans for the upcoming season, following his exclusion from 11 out of 12 matchday squads by head coach Ruben Amorim before Rashford's switch to Villa.
Sources close to Rashford maintain he is unwilling to accept a pay cut from his £325,000-a-week wages, limiting his options to just a few clubs come summer. His contract with United runs until 2028.
One reader, Ghostdad believes: "He will not be moving unless they find someone really gullible. For the money he wants and a transfer fee you could get a half decent footballer, why would you bother with buying someone who has been a problem both financially and on the pitch at United for the last couple of years?"
While Backdraft adds: Rashdord can say ‘I want to play for Barcelona’, but let's face it, every footballer says that. When Barcelona want a player they go after him. I don't see them sniffing around, what is now, an average Premiership player. They already have Lamal. Does he REALLY think he is as good as him? Delusional."
Straight Talking writes: "Rashford is now showing his true colours “won’t take a pay cut” he obviously needs the money and he’s not just greedy."
Ldwn feels: "Showing the world you are desperate to get rid of him means it is the buyer who will dictate the price."
N°8 says: "He won't go abroad, he'd never speak another language in a million years. Still think Arsenal may will come in for him, they love a moaner. I don't believe he doesn't want to live in London even though he'd be a small fish."
Teatotal88 writes: "Can’t blame him for leaving a relegation threatened team."
1954brad believes: "He's not as good as he thinks he is, and pundits keep bigging him up so he thinks he's worth all that money, but fans know better."
Ob1johnny adds: "His heart is not with United and so many other United players are the same."
