The Davide Ancelotti saga at Rangers continues.

The Italian emerged as the frontrunner for the Ibrox vacancy with reports claiming that the Gers had made an offer for him to take over from Barry Ferguson.

However, a report from Onda Cero journalist Alberto Pereiro (16 May) claimed that the young head coach had put his managerial career on hold and would not take the Rangers job.

It stated that he was set to link up with his father, Carlo Ancelotti, with the Brazilian national team, until the 2026 World Cup at the very least.

Rangers twist emerges as Ancelotti still in running

There is still hope for Ancelotti to be on the sidelines in Govan when the new Scottish Premiership campaign starts.

MORE RANGERS STORIES

A report from Chris Jack (16 May) claims that the 35-year-old is still committed to starting his managerial journey next season.

It states that he is still in contention for the vacancy at Auchenhowie and while he will link up with his father next month, it will not be until the World Cup.

Davide Ancelotti remains committed to starting his managerial career next season and is in the running to join Rangers.

Ancelotti needs to give Rangers an answer soon

The up-and-coming coach was an exciting potential appointment, given his experience under one of the greatest managers of all time, a different tactical blueprint and the contacts that he could bring.

The Light Blues were linked with the likes of David Alaba and Ferland Mendy, with Florentino Perez reportedly ready to sanction moves to Govan for the pair if the Madrid-based coach took the role.

Club Role Tenure

Real Madrid Assistant Manager 2021-2025

Everton Assistant Manager 2019-2021

Napoli Assistant Manager 2018-2019

Bayern Munich Assistant Manager 2016-2017

Ancelotti’s path so far.

However, the Bears need an answer soon, they cannot wait around while the younger Ancelotti decides on his future.

There is far too much to do, minus sorting the managerial situation, there is a squad overhaul, a behind-the-scenes revamp and the stadium also needs improvements.

The former Everton assistant manager needs to decide quickly whether he is up to the challenge or would rather be comfortable still working under his dad but not advancing his career by forging his own path.

Otherwise, the 49ers will be forced to move on because they cannot afford to messed around with a crucial summer on the cards in Glasgow, it is crucial that an appointment is made shortly.
