Nuno hopeful of forward's return to the training ground

Head Coach urges team to stick together after challenging time

Forward under observation after surgery earlier this week

Nuno Espírito Santo says Taiwo Awoniyi needs time but is recovering well, and with a hope he will be reunited with his teammates next week, the Head Coach has urged his team to stick together and look forward after a challenging time.

The Forest forward underwent surgery earlier in the week and is currently recovering in hospital.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Forest Head Coach said he was hopeful Awoniyi could be around the Nigel Doughty Academy next week.

“His surgery went well and he’s under observation now. He’s still recovering and we have to wait for the doctors to allow visits. But his family are there with him.

“We are concerned but we are positive.

“It’s been very difficult on us, and everybody with the injury and the situation he has been through.

“It’s been a difficult week with the absence of T and the effect on the group.

“It would change everything if he was with us but we have to move forward and prepare for the game, which is what we’re doing.

“We know that he is well, but he needs time. I hope that he can join us next week and be around because he’s a wonderful boy.”
