3 wingers Middlesbrough should eye this summer as Ben Doak, Samuel Iling-Junior depart

Middlesbrough are likely to be in the market for some wingers this summer with Ben Doak and Samuel Iling-Junior returning to their parent clubs.

Middlesbrough have been very hit and miss with their recruitment recently. Boro were one of the division’s biggest spenders this year, with over £20m spent on incomings.

Despite the big spending, it ended up being another disappointing season for Michael Carrick’s side. They finished the season in 10th place and were left four points adrift of the play-off places.

One of Boro’s better signings this season came in the form of Liverpool loanee Ben Doak. However he, along with Samuel Iling-Junior, will be returning to his parent club this summer, leaving Middlesbrough light in terms of wide options.

With that said, we put forward three wingers who Boro should have their eyes on…

Samuel Edozie – Southampton

Edozie was a part of the Southampton squad that was promoted from the Championship in the 2023/24 season. He made 34 Championship appearances, scoring six goals and getting three assists.

However, he was not fancied this season and has spent the year with Anderlecht in Belgium. With the Belgian club, he has not managed to nail down a starting spot but still made 24 league appearances.

With the Saints set for a big summer rebuild themselves this could be a deal that would need to wait until August. However, he certainly looks like a good option for Middlesbrough with plenty of experience at just 22 years old.

Oliver Antman

Finnish international Oliver Antman has just had the season of his life over in the Eredivisie. He joined Go Ahead Eagles last summer and has marked his first campaign with six goals and 15 assists for the Dutch outfit.

Despite only moving from FC Nordsjaelland less than 12 months ago, his fine form will no doubt have alerted other clubs, and he could bring a massive profit for the club.

Go Ahead Eagles are only 7th in the Eredivisie and are by no means a force in the division. Middlesbrough could swoop for the winger, who only has two years left on his deal, and pull off a real coup ahead of next season.

Lewis Koumas

A very direct replacement for Doak now in the form of Lewis Koumas. The Welsh winger would be another loan option from Liverpool to make use of their good relationship.

Koumas has looked very bright this season during a loan spell with Stoke City. Despite the Potters’ very poor campaign, Koumas has scored three goals and provided two assists in 26 starts.

Boro scored 19 more goals than Stoke this season and are a much more attacking side. Koumas could be a very tidy pickup and he would be much more able to show his talents in a more attacking side.
