Leeds United line up huge free transfer after securing Premier League promotion

Leeds United will reportedly target out-of-contract Newcastle United No.9 Callum Wilson in a bid to strengthen their attacking options for the Premier League.

Daniel Farke's men were promoted as Championship winners, securing the title with virtually the last kick of the season. Now, they return to the English top-flight and are planning on avoiding relegation and an immediate return to the second tier, unlike the six previous teams to go up.

One way of doing that is Leeds firing their way to safety and bolstering their forward line looks set to be a priority this summer.

According to The Sun, Wilson is on the club's radar as Farke looks to add more goals to his squad. The 33-year-old will be available for no fee at all come the start of July, having not yet agreed a new contract with the Magpies.

Newcastle reportedly have an option to trigger a 12-month extension but have not done so as they approach their deadline.

Wilson signed at St. James' Park five years ago from Bournemouth for £20m. Since then he has increased his overall Premier League goal scoring record to 88 in 237 appearances.

Hamstring and back injuries have troubled him in recent years, though he has also found himself pushed aside by Newcastle's top performer Alexander Isak.

Of Farke's attacking options that helped earn promotion, a number have Premier League experience from the club's previous top-flight stint or have played elsewhere.

But of those who boast Premier League experience, Elland Road favourite Manor Solomon will return to Tottenham Hotspur when his loan ends and faces an uncertain future. There is also Patrick Bamford, 31, who scored no Championship goals in 17 appearances last term.

Mateo Joseph made only three Premier League cameos before relegation in 2023, and Largie Ramazani has never played in the division. So, Wilson would help bring experience to a forward line that could benefit from the correct additions.

The report also states that Leeds have been looking at fellow Newcastle star Sean Longstaff, 27, with the midfielder approaching the final 12 months of his contract.
