The Atlanta Hawks finished the 2024-2025 NBA regular season with a 40-42 record. They were the eighth seed entering the play-in tournament, but they lost to the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat in the play-in tournament.

Because of this, they fired Landry Fields at general manager and will look to make moves to change the roster this offseason. Atlanta is a team that is trying to get back to the playoffs in a weak Eastern Conference. The Hawks were sellers at the NBA trade deadline in 2024-2025 and traded away DeAndre Hunter to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Atlanta will look to be on the buyers’ market instead this offseason. For now, Atlanta may not make any big moves, but could they shock everyone and make a play for Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo?

The Hawks fired Fields as the general manager and hired Onsi Saleh to be the general manager. However, Atlanta is looking to hire a new president of basketball operations. Atlanta is interested in Masai Ujiri of the Toronto Raptors. However, per Marc Stein, another target for that role on the Hawks is Alex Saratsis, who is the agent for Antetokounmpo.
Stein said,
“One agent to emerge as a potential candidate with the Hawks, league sources say, is Octagon’s Alex Saratsis, who represents Milwuakee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Miami’s Bam Adebayo. Saratsis’ possible involvement in the Hawks’ search would be a fascinating development that connects two of the major curiosities at the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago this week…with Antetokounmpo’s future, of course, atop the list.”
If the Hawks were to hire his agent in the front office, then there is no doubt that he could try and lure Antetokounmpo to Atlanta, Georgia. Antetokounmpo during the 2024-2025 NBA season with Milwaukee averaged 30.4 PPG, 11.9 RPG, and 6.5 APG, along with shooting 60.1% from the field.
Antetokounmpo played in 67 games for Milwaukee last season. If Atlanta were to make a shocking trade for him, then he would pair up with Trae Young. The Hawks have Clint Capela, Caris LeVert, and Georges Niang hitting free agency this summer. A lot of money will be off the books. This could be a reason why the Hawks could take a swing for him.
Two players to potentially watch for in a trade would be Onyeka Okongwu and Zaccharie Risacher. However, the Hawks would then have to fill out the rest of the roster outside of Antetokounmpo and Young if they were to make a swing like this. Going to Atlanta, Georgia would not be the best fit for Giannis. However, 29 other teams in the NBA landscape could dream about getting Antetokounmpo from the Bucks. The Hawks hiring his agent potentially in the front office would be for one reason and one reason only.
