Huge farewell card for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy unveiled

A giant farewell card has been unveiled in Leicester's Highcross shopping centre today (Friday, May 16). Fans of Leicester City Football Club have a chance to say goodbye to striker Jamie Vardy, who recently announced his departure from the team.

The 8ft-tall card has been created by Leicester artist Kiene from city artists' group Graffwerk. It features a graffiti of Vardy in his number nine jersey, accompanied by a series of news headlines that span his career.

People were seen writing on the card today and are welcome to write a personal message between 9am and 3pm tomorrow (Saturday, May 17). Artist Kiene said: "It was a genuine pleasure to be involved in such a fantastic, local project. Jamie Vardy’s story is legendary, from non-league to Premier League champions. Capturing that journey through this card was an honour."

Talking about the giant card’s arrival, Michelle Menezes, centre director at Highcross Leicester, said: "We know countless fans are eager to express their gratitude and I hope this card, proudly showcasing Kiene’s intricate illustration of a true Leicester legend, serves as a fitting tribute to someone who has given so much to the club and the city."

The card can be found on Highcross’ upper mall, next to the football club's fan store.
