Ever since the mixed reception Trent Alexander-Arnold received during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal, there has been debating raging about whether sections of the fanbase were right to express their feelings on the matter.

It was divided on the day, with applause for the vice-captain being drowned out by boos.

The situation even went as far as booing Alexander-Arnold for his every touch on the ball, although that died down after a while.

Arne Slot’s decision to bring on the 26-year-old, which he defended as wanting to win the game, took the wind of the home side’s sails.

Alexander-Arnold’s subsequent lap around the stadium to clap the fans was also met with boos and jeers.

Now Mohamed Salah has provided his view.

Speaking to Gary Neville for Sky Sports, the Egyptian has revealed that he feels the boos and reaction to Trent Alexander-Arnold was undeserved:

“I thought the fans may be harsh with him, but I think he didn’t deserve it.”

“He deserves the fans to treat him the best way possible because he gave it all to the fans.”

“I was sad when I heard [boos against Arsenal]. Because this is not how we act as Liverpool fans, we shouldn’t act this way with anyone.

“We always appreciate the people for six-months, imagine someone who gives his all for 20-years.”

It shouldn’t be like this, and I hope it will change next game – Brighton or the last game of the season – because he deserves a farewell.

When quizzed by Gary Neville on whether or not he tried to persuade Trent Alexander-Arnold to stay, Salah replied:

“Look, it’s his decision,” the Egyptian responded diplomatically.

“I’m not going to try and convince him to stay because I know he’s here for 20 years at a club.”
