Everton boss David Moyes has said 36-year-old club captain Seamus Coleman will be at the Toffees next season, crushing any assumptions the Donegal man will move on once his contract expires this summer.
Moyes was the man who brought Coleman to Everton from Sligo Rovers in 2009 in a £60,000 deal, with the Republic of Ireland defender going on to make more than 400 appearances for the club.
"Seamus will stay next season," Moyes said. "Without doubt Seamus will be part of the group. I need him here. His leadership, his sort of message he has among the players and in the dressing room is so strong it would be wrong of me to let him go."
Coleman - [named in the Ireland squad](https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2025/0514/1512762-honohan-keeley-patrick-and-phillips-in-ireland-squad/) for next month's friendlies against Senegal and Luxembourg - is one of several senior players out of contract next month, with the future of the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ashley Young also in question as Moyes plots the summer transfer business alongside newly arrived chief executive Angus Kinnear.
Without giving any specifics, Moyes said news could come before Everton's final game of the season away to Newcastle next weekend.
"We're down the road with quite a few situations," Moyes said. "There's a lot going on behind the scenes. We're just not quite there with announcements but we're not too far away."
Moyes wants to ensure his players focus on the job in hand against Southampton on Sunday amid the emotion of Everton's final ever men's home game at Goodison Park.
One hundred and thirty-three years of history will come to an end when Everton host the already-relegated Saints, looking to give the Old Lady a fitting send-off before moving to their new home at Bramley-Moore Dock while handing the keys to Goodison to the women's team.
Plenty of celebrations are planned, but Moyes will only be happy if his side can get three points.
"I think all Evertonians have been sort of waiting for this moment for a long time, because the something that everyone has been looking forward to is the new stadium," Moyes said.
"It will be a sad day, I think it will be an emotional day for a lot of people. I've got to keep the players focused on the game and try to do the best we can in the game."
