Florian Wirtz is more likely to join Liverpool than Manchester City if the German attacker is to arrive in England this summer, according to German journalist Christian Falk.
The 22-year-old is in demand amid a stellar season at Bayer Leverkusen, likely to follow Spanish manager Xabi Alonso out of the BayArena exit door. He has two years left on his contract and has garnered interest from the Premier League, La Liga, and Bundesliga.
Fabrizio Romano reported in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter that City are in the race for Wirtz alongside Bayern. Liverpool have come into the equation and leapfrogged the Cityzens in the battle for the 29-cap Germany international.

Falk has given an update on Wirtz's transfer saga by revealing that a private jet meeting between the player's camp and Liverpool has moved them ahead of City. He stated via CaughtOffside that Bayern remain frontrunners:
"Apparently, however, there has also been a meeting with Liverpool FC. As things stand, Liverpool are further ahead than Man City in the poker. But, the truth is: FC Bayern are still optimistic that they will get their dream player. Either this summer or in 2026, as his contract runs until 2027."

Wirtz could cost up to £126m, but Bayern are starting their bidding at £84.6m amid interest from City and Liverpool. Arne Slot is set to oversee a busy summer transfer window at Anfield and will have plenty of money to spend as he looks to defend the Premier League title successfully next season.
Pursuing the previously lauded German "superstar" attacking midfielder speaks volumes of the club's ambitions to remain at the top of English football at the expense of a revived City. He has been excellent under Alonso at Leverkusen, including this season, where he sits second in the assists chart (12).
Liverpool are already set to seal their first summer signing as they close in on Wirtz's teammate Jeremie Frimpong. GIVEMESPORT sources understand that the Reds are confident a deal for the Dutch wing-back will be wrapped up in the coming days.
