Plenty of players have come and gone at Manchester United over the years, with many touted as future stars from a young age.

While a handful have broken through to achieve success – such as Anthony Elanga, now thriving at Nottingham Forest, others have found the path to senior football more difficult.

Some have moved on permanently in search of regular action.

While others have taken the loan route to gain valuable experience.

Not every move pays off, and even promising loan spells can hit bumps along the road.

Ethan Ennis to return to Old Trafford following end of loan spell

The latest update sees Doncaster Rovers confirm via their club website that Manchester United forward Ethan Ennis will return to Old Trafford following the conclusion of his loan spell.

The League Two champions published their retained and released list after sealing a memorable title win, with manager Grant McCann praising the entire squad’s efforts over the campaign.

Ennis, 20, joined Rovers in January in what was his first senior loan move.

The versatile attacker had made a name for himself earlier in the season at United’s Under-21 level, scoring 10 times in 17 matches – including a standout hattrick against Altrincham.

Although he started just four of his eight appearances for Doncaster, Ennis gained valuable minutes in a high-pressure promotion battle and was involved in several key fixtures.

One notable moment came in February when he was subbed off shortly after coming on during a match against Accrington Stanley, with the team reduced to 10 men and forced into a tactical reshuffle.

Despite that disappointment, Rovers boss McCann praised Ennis’ attitude and professionalism throughout the campaign.

Now, with Doncaster preparing for life in League One, Ennis returns to United with a half-season of senior experience under his belt and a taste of the demands at the professional level.
