Liverpool are preparing for one of their most significant transfer windows in recent years as Arne Slot looks to strengthen his squad following a Premier League title-winning campaign.

The Reds stormed to the league crown this season, despite making no major signings last summer. Federico Chiesa was the only new arrival, but the Italy international has seen limited minutes throughout the season.

This summer, however, is expected to be different. Liverpool already appear to be closing in on their first piece of business, with the ECHO reporting this week that the club are set to trigger Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong’s £30 million release clause.

Interest is also growing in Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, while Frimpong’s Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz is another name heavily linked with a move to Anfield.

If any of those players do sign for Liverpool, which shirt numbers would be available to them? That will largely depend on who stays and who moves on, but there are already some notable gaps in the squad.

The No.6 shirt remains available following Thiago Alcantara’s departure at the end of last season, while the No.12 has been vacant since Joe Gomez switched to No.2 back in 2022. Other available numbers include 13, 15, and 16.

Frimpong, who currently wears No.30 at Bayer Leverkusen, will be pleased to know that number has been unused at Liverpool for the past decade and remains free should he want to keep it. If both Wirtz and Kerkez were to join, they would need to pick new numbers, as No.10 and No.3 are currently worn by Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo.

One high-profile number set to become available is Trent Alexander-Arnold’s iconic No.66, which will be vacant for the first time since the academy graduate adopted it in 2016.

Asked about recent reports linking Liverpool with a move for Frimpong during his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash against Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said: "A boring answer and for a whole season it was about contract extensions and now everyone wants to know who is coming in.

"We don't talk about it in public until we sign them and then you can ask me all about it. Conor can play it, Joe Gomez, so it is not like once Trent leaves I don't know what to do but we are always looking at interesting players, who can improve our squad."
