Ron Harper Offers Four Words on His Son Playing With Victor Wembanyama on Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs nearly won the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery, but will have to settle for the second overall pick. The general consensus is that Dylan Harper, son of five-time NBA champion Ron, will be the second pick.

The Spurs have been rumored to be shopping the pick for an established star, although the most realistic path is San Antonio adding Harper and then working out the fit next to De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle after the fact.

Mission number one for the Spurs remains getting the most out of Victor Wembanyama and building a long-standing winner. In theory, having three elite facilitators and solid perimeter defenders in the starting five makes sense, even if all three are not known as deadeye shooters.

However, Harper shot 37 percent on catch-and-shoot 3s in college (33.3 percent overall), so there is hope he can space the floor. His father seems to think going to the Spurs would be the best thing for him, saying the fit between him and Wemby "could be special."

Harper, by all accounts, is easily the second-best player in the draft behind Cooper Flagg. The Spurs, in theory, could draft for fit and add a shooter like Tre Johnson or Ace Bailey, although taking a possible franchise-player, regardless of fit, seems like the smartest pick.

Players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Lauri Markkanen, and Kevin Durant are expected to be on the trade market, but unless the Spurs land Giannis, they are expected to keep the second pick. Even then, they could include Stephon Castle in a deal instead.
