Report: Liverpool now in talks to sign ‘best striker in the world’ alongside Wirtz and Frimpong

Liverpool have held talks with Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres' representatives over a potential summer move, according to CaughtOffside.

The Premier League champions have reportedly discussed the Sweden international’s possible arrival at Anfield but remain behind Arsenal in the race to sign him.

Gyokeres is expected to leave Sporting after two outstanding seasons in Portugal, and there is a strong possibility of a return to England, where he previously played for Coventry and Brighton.

The 26-year-old forward, who joined Sporting from Coventry in 2023, is likely to be available for £60m this summer and could demand wages in excess of £200,000 per week.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have identified Gyokeres as a potential replacement for underperforming striker Darwin Nunez, who could leave after three seasons at Anfield.

The Uruguayan was linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in January, and while Liverpool were unwilling to sell mid-season, they are now reportedly open to letting him go to make room for a new number nine.

Gyokeres, praised as ‘the best striker in the world’, has enjoyed another exceptional campaign for Sporting, scoring 52 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions.

Arsenal are currently believed to be leading the race for his signature, although Manchester United and his former coach Ruben Amorim are also said to be interested.

Liverpool are closing in on their first summer signing as they are in advanced talks for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong.

The Merseysiders have identified the Dutchman as a primary target to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold and are also looking at his teammate Florian Wirtz as a potential midfield addition.
