Kalvin Phillips update: Manager opens up on midfielder’s future – Leeds United poised to make a …

The transfer window is yet to open, but Leeds United have been linked with a host of players. The Whites are expected to make some massive changes to the squad ahead of next season.

Leeds mark their return to the English top flight later this year, after two years away from the competition. Relegation in 2023 broke the fans’ hearts but Daniel Farke has done well to give them some hope. This past season has been one of the better ones at Elland Road in the last few years. A league title win, 100 points and 95 goals is pretty much what everyone could ask for.

Sean Longstaff and Tomas Soucek have been heavily linked in recent days. West Ham have informed Soucek that he can leave this summer, while Eddie Howe says Longstaff’s future is the player’s choice.

Another option is Kalvin Phillips. Leeds have long wanted the return of one of the fan favourites since last summer. A source said that the midfielder has had his heart set on a return to Elland Road since the club were promoted.

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has now opened up on the future of the England star:

“In many ways I think frustrating for him and for us that we haven’t been able to get him to his best as quickly as we could and utilise a really fully fit and confident Kalvin for more of the season because he would have been an addition to us.” he said in a press briefing.

”…I have had very few conversations with many of the players about next season.

“Those conversations will take place maybe a little bit next week, certainly the few days after the season finishes with the players that are here, (and) the loan players about the future and we will see what comes.”

Should Leeds re-sign Phillips?

It would be a great moment for the fans at Elland Road to have Kalvin back. But questions will be asked about his ability to play in the top flight. His injury record is still a worrying issue, and that may impact his ability to play over a full season.

Phillips still has the talent, and his ability on the ball is still superb. If Leeds do take a chance on him, he will offer a different dimension to what the team currently has.
