Report: Cavs expected to ‘largely stand pat’ this offseason after flaming out of playoffs

The [Cleveland Cavaliers](https://cavaliersnation.com/)’ magical 2024-25 regular season didn’t translate to much playoff success, as injuries and a bad matchup led to the team fizzling out in the second round against the [Indiana Pacers](https://ahnfiredigital.com/category/nba/indiana-pacers/).

The playoff exit has caused a wide variety of reactions from Cavs fans about how the franchise should proceed, but based on a recent report, folks shouldn’t expect too many roster changes from Cleveland this offseason.

> “The Cavs, I think, from my understanding from talking to people in and around that organization, I think they are gonna largely stand pat this summer,” said NBA insider Jake Fischer.

There’s a legitimate argument to be made that the Cavs’ second-round disappointment shouldn’t be seen as a typical second-round exit, as the team was so banged up against the Pacers that it’s hard to completely gauge what the ceiling was this season.

Key pieces Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and De’Andre Hunter each missed at least one game against Indiana and seemingly weren’t at 100 percent even after returning, and while star guard Donovan Mitchell didn’t miss a game in the series, he had to fight through his own injury woes to make that happen.

As such, it’s difficult to say for sure how far the Cavs would’ve gone this season had they stayed healthy. It’s still possible that their current core is championship-caliber, even after lasting just five games in the second round.

But that isn’t going to comfort every Cavs fan, especially those who believe that changes are needed in order for Cleveland to reach the next level. Fischer’s report may leave the door open for some tweaks around the edges of the roster, but it doesn’t sound like anything monumental is in the cards.

The hope is that next season will have a different ending for Cleveland. After the team won 64 games in the 2024-25 regular season only to be eliminated in the second round, there may be nothing the Cavs can do in the 2025-26 regular season in order to turn their skeptics into believers. But once the 2026 NBA Playoffs roll around, the squad will have a chance to make a statement.

The Cavs are still trying to win their first NBA championship since 2016.
