Jamie Redknapp has called for change after Manchester United saw Harry Maguire’s goal disallowed against Chelsea.
United, who have had another disappointing season, looked to build momentum heading into the Europa League final on May 21. The visitors thought they had gone ahead at Stamford Bridge when Maguire volleyed Bruno Fernandes' cross past Robert Sanchez.
However, celebrations were short-lived as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) ruled the goal out, judging Maguire to be offside when the cross was delivered.
"VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and determined that Maguire was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed," the Premier League's Match Centre explained on X after the goal was ruled out.
Speaking about the decision during the Sky Sports studio half-time analysis, Roy Keane said the decision was 'tough to take'.
He said: "He's trying but you would have to give Chelsea a little bit of credit because they've held their line well, very brave. Brilliant ball, absolutely amazing finish like a top striker. Very cruel. Look how tight that is. Tough to take."
Presenter David Jones said: "Bit of shoulder. That's all it takes these days. Offside is offside."
"Offside by the shoulder, it's football," Jamie Redknapp said before the former Liverpool midfielder called for a change to the rules following the VAR decision.
"I'd like to see that rule changed one day and make it so it's your feet or whatever. It doesn't really work in the favour of the forwards because you're always trying to lean forwards so your shoulder's naturally going to be offside and the defender's trying to go the other way. I would like to see it changed."
