Man Utd player ratings from the Premier League defeat to Chelsea ahead of the Europa League final.

Rasmus Hojlund and Patrick Dorgu both struggled as Manchester United were beaten by Chelsea in the Premier League. Ruben Amorim made five changes to his starting line up ahead of the Europa League final, with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes selected in central midfield and Hojlund chosen to lead the line.

United thought they took an early lead when Harry Maguire produced a fine finish in the box, only for the goal to be correctly ruled out for offside. Chelsea dominated the rest of the first half and went agonisingly close to an opener when Reece James struck an excellent effort against the post.

Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes both sent efforts wide of the target after the restart but it was Chelsea who took the lead when Marc Cucurella headed in at the back-post after an excellent assist from Reece James. Here is how we rated the United players at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United player ratings vs Chelsea

Andre Onana

He claimed crosses into his box well and made some routine saves. There was nothing he could do about the Chelsea goal. 5

Victor Lindelof

A good performance in the United defence. He held his own for much of the match, but perhaps should have been more aware for the goal. 5

Harry Maguire

A formidable defensive performance. He was resolute in his own box and produced a fine finish for the disallowed goal. He didn’t deserve to be on the losing side. 7

Another step in the right direction from him. He defended well and was clever with the ball. He should start against Tottenham in Bilbao. 6

Noussair Mazraoui

A tough test against Noni Madueke and a reminder that he is better as a centre-back than a full-back. 5

Another good midfield performance. He broke up play well and made sensible decisions with the ball before he was eventually taken off. 6

Bruno Fernandes

He kept everything ticking in midfield and was the creative spark of the United side. Sent a wasteful effort over the Chelsea bar in a low-key attacking display. 6

Patrick Dorgu

A scrappy and sloppy performance. He was loose in possession and did not do enough with the ball. Beaten far too often at left wing-back. 4

Amad Diallo

A quiet performance by his usual standards. He didn’t have much joy down the right but was at the heart of their best attacks. He sent a good attempt at the Chelsea goal. 6

Mason Mount

He started the match brightly and made a good contribution after the break. He should have done better with a shot wide of goal. 5

Rasmus Hojlund

A bright moment of hold-up play early on, before he regressed again. He offered little in attack and made some poor decisions. 4

How Manchester United substitutes rated against Chelsea

Manuel Ugarte

He did not have the positive impact from the bench that he hoped he would as Chelsea dominated the midfield battle. 5

Alejandro Garnacho

He was tormented by Reece James in the build up to Marc Cucurella’s fine goal. He worked hard to try and get back into the match. 5

Kobbie Mainoo

A few careless passes that put his team under unnecessary pressure. He will be on the bench in Bilbao. 5

Ayden Heaven

He gave a good account of himself upon his return from injury. A clumsy tackle on Malo Gusto in stoppage time. 5
