Nottingham Forest have been handed a major blow in their pursuit to secure Champions League football next season.
Nuno Espirito Santo's side guaranteed European football despite drawing 2-2 to Leicester City at the City Ground last weekend. Leicester's late equaliser from Facundo Buonanotte saw tensions flare on the pitch, with Evangelos Marinakis appearing to direct comments at the Reds' boss after the match.
Marinakis, who dominated headlines this week, later explained his heated altercation with his manager was a moment of "passion".
After dropping points in their push to secure Champions League football, Forest would have closely watched results elsewhere. On Friday night, European rivals Chelsea and Aston Villa took to the pitch aiming to climb higher up the table.
Forest will take to the pitch on Sunday, facing West Ham at the London Stadium (2:15pm). Meanwhile, second place is up for grabs as Newcastle United host Arsenal, with just two points separating the sides.
Here, NottinghamshireLive has taken a look at how results elsewhere have impacted the Reds.
Permutations
Before Friday night's results, if Nuno’s side failed to beat West Ham and Manchester City, Chelsea, or Aston Villa secured better results, the Reds would be out of contention for a Champions League spot.
Unfortunately, it has not gone in Forest's favour with Villa claiming a 2-0 win over Tottenham and Chelsea coming away 1-0 winners against Manchester United.
As a result, Chelsea have leapfrogged both City and Villa to move into fourth place.
As it stands, Forest must win their game on Sunday to level City on 65 points - and hope Pep Guardiola’s side doesn’t pick up any points against Bournemouth.
But unfortunately, it doesn’t depend solely on Forest to get the job done in their last two games. Even if they beat West Ham and City lose to Bournemouth, Forest would still need to defeat Chelsea and hope Villa lose to United on the final day.
Although still in contention, qualifying for the Champions League appears difficult.
As it stands

Arsenal - 68 points
Newcastle - 66 points (+23 GD)
