Man United look set to add two strikers to their ranks this summer in Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap.
Cunha is expected to cost around £67m, and it is understood that United are set to sign him regardless of whether they win the Europa League or not. Delap is much cheaper, as he has a £30m release clause, and United are also expected to invest in the 22-year-old this summer.
If they do, United will have five strikers in their ranks, with Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund and Chido Obi-Martin already at the club. With that in mind, they may look to sell at least one of those this summer.
Fenerbahce wants Rasmus Hojlund
Hojlund has had a poor season for the Red Devils in terms of goalscoring. He has netted just four goals in 30 Premier League appearances, which for United’s first choice striker is simply not good enough.
However, despite that, reports in Turkey have emerged suggesting that former United boss Jose Mourinho is interested in bringing the Danish striker to Fenerbahce, a move that United would likely welcome, considering their position regarding Cunha and Delap.
Turkish outlet Sozcu reports that Fenerbahce are weighing up an approach for Hojlund this summer, and that they will likely propose to sign him on loan with an option to buy next year, much like Marcus Rashford’s deal at Aston Villa.
United spent £72m to sign Hojlund back in 2023, and they will likely have to take significant losses on the Danish international regardless of whether he could improve with a year’s loan move away.
Assuming that United do sign one or both of Cunha and Delap, Hojlund would be more likely to move to the Serie A, as the likes of Juventus and Napoli have shown interest. They would be more likely to afford a bigger transfer fee that United could accept, to avoid heavy losses on the striker.
United could sell Hojliund and Zirkzee
Hojlund isn’t the only of United’s strikers to be linked with a move away in recent days as Zirkzee has also been subject to reports saying that he could leave in the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old has equally struggled in the Premier League this season, netting just three goals in 32 games. So it wouldn’t be a surprise if United decided to cash in and sell both Hojlund and Zirkzee with a view to replacing them with Cunha and Delap.
