Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim wanted his players to prove themselves before the upcoming Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur. The Red Devils faced Chelsea in the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Friday night, losing the game 1-0.
United have endured a terrible season as they currently lie 16th in the Premier League table after suffering 18 losses. However, the Europa League remains their road to some salvation and a chance to play in next season’s Champions League.
United dropped a significant form since the knockout stages in the Europa League commenced, focusing more on the cup competition. While many pundits have scrutinised Man United for taking the Premier League for granted, some called it a practical decision.

It goes without saying that a squad of United’s calibre should do well in multiple competitions altogether, without any excuses. Another thing that has bothered Amorim is the squad’s inability to adjust quickly to his tactical demands at the club.
Amorim has faced criticising for not meeting the squad in the middle ground by somewhat adjusting to his players’ comfort. Nevertheless, Man United have to make sure they don’t fall much further with the Premier League games remaining this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports before the Chelsea clash, Amorim asserted that players should prove themselves before the Europa League final between United and Tottenham. He said:
“We have five days to prepare for the final. My focus is on this game and sometimes the best way to prepare for a final is to play, to compete. We have experienced some problems in that area. I want to see my team compete, I need to understand my team to prepare the final in a better way and they need time to prove themselves to be ready for the final.”
What makes the season worse is the 20th title victory of United’s archrival Liverpool this season, equalling their record. The gap between the two clubs is too big and embarrassing for a club of United’s stature.
