Report: Newcastle United duo both offered an exit route to Premier League club

A Premier League club are reportedly desperate to sign two Newcastle United stars.

While the Magpies are expected to have a busy summer with new arrivals, the expected outgoings could be just as numerous.

Newcastle United are in a position where they can spend with much more freedom in the summer. The club have broken free from their PSR shackles and are now able to sign players to more lucrative contracts and offer higher transfer fees.

The belief is that Newcastle will have £150m to spend this summer, more than enough for sporting director Paul Mitchell to bring in high-quality players for Eddie Howe.

From a departures perspective, the likes of Joe Willock could leave Newcastle this summer. The midfielder has struggled with injuries this season and has failed to impress Howe when given a chance in the first team.

With Mitchell preparing for a busy summer, one Newcastle player has been linked with a move to Leeds United, with head coach Daniel Farke desperate to bolster that position.

Leeds United planning summer moves for Callum Wilson and Sean Longstaff

Longstanding Newcastle duo Callum Wilson and Sean Longstaff will understandably be frustrated with their lack of minutes at the club this season.

Wilson missed the first few months of the season with a back problem, while Longstaff fell down the pecking order at Newcastle following Sandro Tonali’s return from suspension and 18-year-old Lewis Miley’s remarkable rise.

Mitchell thought Longstaff was ready to leave Newcastle months ago, and the midfielder even had interest from the Premier League during the January transfer window. However, the 27-year-old has remained at the club, making a handful of substitute appearances in 2025.

Like Longstaff, Wilson has been limited to just one Premier League start this season as a result of Alexander Isak’s remarkable form.

According to Sun Sport, Leeds are willing to sign both Wilson and Longstaff this summer to give them more minutes in the Premier League.

The report has stated that Leeds boss Daniel Farke is ‘desperate’ to add more firepower to his squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

While a move looks likely this summer, Newcastle could be reluctant to let Longstaff leave as he is the club’s only club-trained player, which is integral for their European squad registration next season.

Callum Wilson’s frustration at Newcastle United

This season has been anything but positive for the 33-year-old Wilson. Just one goal in 20 appearances across all competitions is far from the player fans came to love when he signed in 2020.

With Isak offering much more than the England international does, it is difficult to see him working his way back into the starting XI for the final two games of the Premier League season.

In a recent interview, Wilson admitted he was frustrated with his game time at Newcastle, but ultimately admitted that he knew it was because of how well Isak has been playing this season.

Wilson could have triggered a contract extension at Newcastle if he surpassed a threshold of games played this season. With two games left, Wilson is no longer able to trigger that clause.
