Change is coming to the midfield of Manchester City this summer.
Pep Guardiola’s team have found the 2024/25 campaign very tough as City have gone from winning four Premier League titles in a row to having to fight for a place in next season’s Champions League, with just two games to go.
The long-term knee injury suffered by Rodri at the start of the season has played a part in this, but overall, Man City’s midfield needed a revamp as its key stars have reached the latter stages of their careers.
That is coming this summer, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz being Pep Guardiola’s dream signing to replace Kevin De Bruyne.
Man City face tough competition to land the German talent, and in case they don’t, the Manchester club have alternatives, and the agent of one of them has been speaking about links to the Etihad Stadium.

Dani Olmo’s agent shuts down Man City links
Man City have been long-term admirers of Dani Olmo and considered a move for the Spaniard last summer, however, the 27-year-old would opt to move to Barcelona as part of a £51m deal with RB Leipzig.
The Manchester club’s interest in the midfielder never waned, and the agent of Olmo, Andy Bara, has now addressed the rumours linking his client to the Etihad as the Euro 2024 winner will be on City’s list should they miss out on Wirtz.
“We are not talking to any other club. Dani is very happy in Barcelona at the moment, he’s winning titles there and is part of a great team,” Bara told Sky Germany. “The rumours are not true. But of course, you never know what the future will bring.”
The signing of Olmo would be an exciting one for Man City; however, the Barcelona star is injury-prone, and there are better alternatives to Wirtz, should the Manchester club fail to land the Bayer Leverkusen star.
Erling Haaland is a big fan of Eberechi Eze, who is a player City have shown past interest in, while Morgan Gibbs-White has been linked to Man City, and can perform in the number 10 role, as well as the eight position.

How Dani Olmo compares to Florian Wirtz
Both Olmo and Wirtz are fantastic players, but there is no doubt that the German is the more talented of the two, hence why four of the biggest clubs in the world are chasing his signature this summer.
Both play similar roles in their teams as they are often deployed in the number 10 position, but can also do a job on the wings, as both are great dribblers and can pick their teammates out in the middle of the park.

Although their styles are similar in ways, Wirtz differs from Olmo as the German simply does everything at a higher level and more consistently.
The 22-year-old is also five years younger than the Barca star, which is also a bigger appeal to Man City as they continue to push for the Bundesliga talent’s signature this summer.
