Newcastle’s Eddie Howe is the number one candidate “by miles” to replace Thomas Tuchel, according to Chris Waddle.
The winger who earned 62 caps for the Three Lions during his playing days told Football Insider exclusively that the Newcastle boss was the best out of a poor crop of English managers.
The former Bournemouth boss has enjoyed an immense campaign in the North East.
Newcastle won their first major trophy in 70 years by beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, and look set to qualify for Champions League football for the second time in three seasons.
However, having been linked with the job when it first became available, Howe remains an enticing option to take charge of England when Thomas Tuchel‘s contract expires next summer.

Newcastle’s lofty ambitions may force Eddie Howe out
In spite of all the success the Magpies’ boss has enjoyed this season, Simon Jordan suggested in March that Newcastle’s ambitions may see them part ways with Howe.

The club’s owners will have desires to win more than just the Carabao Cup and the 47-year-old will need to prove himself capable of challenging for titles sooner rather than later.
One of the many issues that may arise for Howe next season could be the loss of Arsenal and Liverpool target Alexander Isak, who is integral to the way Newcastle plays.
As a consequence, the English manager seems likely to end up taking charge of his national side following Tuchel’s stint in charge, with the German boss’ contract set to expire at the end of the 2026 World Cup.

Eddie Howe a better option for England than Scott Parker
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, via NewBettingSites.uk, former England star Waddle revealed Howe was the number one candidate to take charge of the Three Lions in his eyes, and was a much better option than the other English managers available, including the likes of Burnley’s Scott Parker.
He said: “When you look around, let’s be honest, for the next current option, Eddie leads it by miles because he’s kept Newcastle in the top 10, top six, top eight, all the last three seasons.
“So, you know, he’s the number one candidate, you can see that.
“Now, people like Scott Parker has come up with Burnley. Would he be an option if he does well this season with Burnley, which will be very difficult?
“But, you know, let’s be honest, there’s not a lot of English talent around manager-wise. Eddie is the obvious [choice], and rightly so.
“I’d be quite happy if after the World Cup next year they give Eddie a chance to take them to the Euros and see where they go.”
