Former Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has clarified his future at Marseille ahead of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United suspended Mason Greenwood in January 2022 after his arrest on serious charges, which were later dropped in early 2023 due to withdrawn witnesses and new evidence.
After an internal review, United decided he should continue his career elsewhere. Greenwood was loaned to Getafe in 2023, where he impressed with 10 goals and six assists, leading to a £26 million move to Marseille the following summer.
Since his arrival in France, Greenwood has 20 goals and five assists in 35 games, helping the Ligue 1 side qualify for the Champions League next season.
That has led to various clubs being linked with him, and even reports that there are Premier League clubs interested in signing him.
Greenwood clarifies Marseille future amid Premier League return links
Greenwood has been said to want to move back to England this summer but the player himself has squashed the recent rumours when speaking to the French media.
In a rare interview, the 23-year-old explained that he wants to stay at Marseille and play in the Champions League for his current side next term, essentially ruling out a transfer elsewhere.
“I hope to be here next year for the Champions League,” the former United forward told journalists.
“All the other players tell me that the stadium is something special. I think it’s been a very positive season, we’ve reached our objective.
“I feel at home here. I recently had a baby here with my girlfriend. Not a lot of people get to experience that kind of thing here and with all my teammates and coaches I would like to thank them all.”
United won’t get Greenwood money this summer
It is very well known that United need a strong transfer window in order to turn things around under Ruben Amorim, and raising cash for signings will be key.
Many expected the club to receive some money from Greenwood moving this summer, as there is a clause in his contract which means United would take 50 per cent of the profit on any deal for the striker.

With his valuation likely to be over £50 million, this would have seen the Reds pocket over £10 million, which would be useful in the summer.
But following Greenwood’s comments, it seems unlikely that United will be receiving any money on his deal for now, and will have to find other ways of raising extra funds.
