Tomas Soucek has been a key player in what has otherwise been a disappointing season for West Ham.

Graham Potter has struggled to get the best out of his team after replacing Julen Lopetegui in January.

Before the victory against Manchester United on 11 May, Potter was under pressure after winning just three of his last 16 games with the Hammers, and this poor form could see several players consider their future away from the London Stadium.

Now 15th in the Premier League, Potter must convince his players and West Ham bosses to invest in him and the team for the foreseeable future.

Soucek responds to Vladimir Coufal exit

Soucek is one of the more experienced Hammers in the current squad and has been an important player this year, but has been linked with an exit at the end of the season.

During his time at the East London club, Soucek has developed a friendship with Coufal, who both moved to the London Stadium from Slavia Prague within 10 months of one another in 2020.

Soucek has been important for West Ham this season

The Czech contingent of Coufal and Soucek will come to an end this summer as the right-back nears the end of his contract, with the Irons already confirming his exit.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports (16 May), Soucek laughed: “I’ll be asking him to tell me first where he’s going!”

Soucek went on to add: “It’ll be a big miss for me, and the club as well. It’ll be tough not to see him every day, but that’s football.”

Soucek will take on a big role next season

Michail Antonio and Aaron Creswell are the only two players ahead of him on the appearance front, and both are out of contract at the end of the season, with Creswell already certain to leave the club.

Despite being a fan favourite, the midfielder has also been linked with a move away from the Hammers, with David Moyes keen on reuniting him with Everton.

This means, as the most experienced player at West Ham, if he continues at the club, Soucek will need to take on an even bigger leadership role next year.

Undoubtedly, Potter will look to bring in several new players who will need someone to guide them as they adjust to a new team and, for some, a different league.

Thus, if Soucek wants to see his team compete for all trophies next season, he will need to play as big a part off the pitch as he does on it.
