Manchester United youngster Gabriele Biancheri has been called up to Wales' senior squad.

Biancheri has scored 21 goals in academy fixtures this season, and Craig Bellamy has rewarded the young striker's strong performances with a call up to Wales' squad for the first time.

Wales will hold a training camp to prepare for 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Belgium next month. Biancheri will get the chance to impress Bellamy after representing Wales' youth teams.

Biancheri has taken part in several first-team training sessions at Carrington, but he hasn't been named in a matchday squad, despite building an impressive goalscoring record at United.

The 18-year-old was part of a supremely talented Under-18 side that impressively won three trophies last season, and he has spent his time between the U18s and Under-21s during this campaign.

Biancheri has Italian heritage, which means he could represent the Azzurri, but all signs point towards Biancheri representing Wales on the international stage throughout his career.

Biancheri has been the most prolific scorer in the academy this season - he has more goals than Chido Obi - and he possesses the quality to play in different attacking roles.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have both struggled to score this season. They have just 17 goals between them in all competitions and United will sign a new striker in the summer.

Hojlund's performance against Chelsea on Friday night was heavily criticised and some supporters believe he should be dropped for next week's Europa League final against Tottenham.

Amorim has handed Obi his first-team debut, but the young striker is eligible to play in Europe.

United signed a teenage Biancheri from Cardiff City in February 2023.
