Unai Emery 'expected' Chelsea to beat Manchester United on Friday
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery made a bold claim after finding out about Manchester United's defeat to Chelsea on Friday.
Marc Cucurella scored the all-important goal for the Stamford Bridge club late in the second half as he headed past Andre Onana to inflict an 18th Premier League defeat of the season on the Reds.
United had thought they'd scored first in the tie when Harry Maguire guided home a Bruno Fernandes cross, only for VAR to rule it out for offside.
But it ended 1-0 in the capital as Enzo Maresca's Chelsea made a huge stride towards sealing Champions League qualification for next season.
And Emery, whose Villa side made their own inroads towards Europe following a 2-0 success over United's Europa League final opponents Tottenham Hotspur, spoke about the result in his post-match press conference.
"How's it going with Chelsea?," he said. "Finished 1-0, okay we expected it" followed by a cheeky grin and a laugh.
Emery added: “It’s not in our hands. We are winning. But other teams are as well, they are being demanding, and they are getting their points.”
