Manchester United are expected to sign at least one defender this summer, with persistent injuries hitting their current crop.
Injuries have affected several of Ruben Amorim’s defensive options this season, with makeshift options required to cover the absences on multiple occasions.
Luke Shaw, for example, has managed just 348 Premier League minutes this season, with consistent injuries affecting him throughout.

And Harry Maguire, Ayden Heaven, Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Lisandro Martinez have also faced periods on the injury table.
Martinez’s injury troubles will continue into next season too, with a cruciate ligament problem expected to keep him out until January.
With the defensive crisis undoubtedly playing a part in United’s underperformance in the Premier League this season, Amorim will be keen to ensure the same situation can be avoided going forward.
Victor Lindelof is expected to leave the club in the summer, which could make space for a new arrival.
Several defenders have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, including Sporting CP centre-half Goncalo Inacio.

Huijsen to join Real Madrid
One target is now off the table, however, with a move to Real Madrid made official today.
AFC Bournemouth have confirmed that Dean Huijsen will join the La Liga giants, after his £50m release clause was activated.
The 20-year-old joined the Cherries last summer from Juventus, and has impressed in the Premier League this season.
His performances reportedly prompted interest from Real Madrid, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United, but Los Blancos have stolen a march for the defender’s signature.
Bournemouth said in a statement: “Everyone at AFC Bournemouth is looking forward to working with Dean for the remaining two games of the Premier League season, before he embarks on the next step of his career.”
