Harvey Barnes “might decide he fancies a move away” from Newcastle United, while Joe Willock has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him about Barnes and Willock’s potential Newcastle exits.

The winger has effectively deputised for Anthony Gordon this term, scoring nine goals and creating four assists in 31 Premier League appearances.

On the other hand, Willock has failed to score in 30 top-flight outings, albeit he has made just 11 starts amid interest from Palace.

Newcastle could sell Barnes and Willock to balance the books

Newcastle have enjoyed a historic season, lifting the Carabao Cup by beating Liverpool in the Wembley final on 16 March.

But the Magpies are keen to achieve even more success next season, and will have to recruit well in the summer transfer window, which could involve selling some of their current assets.

O’Rourke discussed the futures of both Willock and Barnes on the latest episode of the Inside Track: “We saw it last summer with Newcastle when they were forced to sell Elliot Anderson and Yakuba Minteh to Brighton just to help balance the books and free up space in the squad.

“They would like to keep hold of Harvey Barnes. For me, he’s been very impressive in recent months since getting the run in the side following Anthony Gordon’s injury. It depends on whether Harvey Barnes sees himself as being a back-up player or a regular first-team starter. If that’s the case, he might decide he fancies a move away to play regularly at this stage of his career.

“There’s been links with Aston Villa, which again would make a bit of sense. I don’t think Newcastle will be open to offers for him, but money talks.”

“Willock’s another one who potentially could be on the move in the summer. He’s been linked with Crystal Palace potentially for a move to Selhurst Park. They see him as a potential Eze replacement. He’s under contract until 2027 at St James’ Park.

“So while his transfer value remains relatively high, maybe Newcastle could be tempted to cash in on him just to allow Eddie Howe a bit more leeway in the transfer window this summer.”

Leeds United want Callum Wilson

While Barnes and Willock could be set for the Newcastle exit door, Callum Wilson appears likely to depart the North East when his contract with Howe’s men expires.

The striker has provided the Magpies with admirable service over the years.

But his time at St James’ Park has seemingly come to a natural end, as he is now firmly in the shadow of the much-sought-after Alexander Isak.

Since joining Newcastle from Bournemouth back in 2020, Wilson has scored 49 goals in 128 appearances for the North East outfit.

In his best season with the Magpies, the former Bournemouth man notched 18 goals and five assists in 31 Premier League appearances during the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

But those appearances have subsequently been dwarfed by Isak, who has 27 goals and six assists to his name across all competitions this term.

While Wilson is set to leave Newcastle, he has attracted interest from Leeds United, who are intent on strengthening their squad ahead of competing in next term’s Premier League.
