Manchester United's struggles in attack continued in Friday night's Premier League defeat to Chelsea.
With Joshua Zirkzee out injured, Ruben Amorim has only one option up front and that's Rasmus Hojlund. The striker, who cost £72million in 2023, has scored 10 goals this season, averaging out at just one goal every 10 games.
For the second straight Premier League game, Hojlund played the entirety of the match and failed to make an impact. It was another blank to demonstrate why United have prioritised signing a new striker in the summer transfer window.
Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap are the prime targets at Old Trafford with the Brazilian 'optimistic' of joining the club. There have also been links to Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres but another wildcard option to reinforce the attack has emerged in the last 72 hours.
Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy is one of Europe's most prolific strikers with 33 goals in 43 matches in Germany this season. The Guinea star only joined the Yellow Wall last summer but he has already been tipped for an exit.
According to German publication BILD, Guirassy has a €70million (£60m) release clause in his contract at the Westfaldenstadion which is only active to a small host of clubs - and United are said to be one of them.
It's claimed that United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all able to trigger the release clause. The report states that any other clubs are not permitted to activate the clause.
Guirassy was linked with a move to United prior to his move to Dortmund. However, he left Stuttgart and joined the German giants in a deal worth £15m.
The Dortmund forward's £60m fee is a similar price that United will have to pay for Cunha to prise him away from Wolves. Delap has a £30m release clause at Ipswich Town and would come with one season of Premier League experience.
