'His pace': Former teammate tells Liverpool fans how fast Jeremie Frimpong really is as deal reaches final stages

Liverpool’s transfer window looks set to start with a bang as they close in on their first deal of the summer.

The Reds have been expected to be busy as they prepare to defend their Premier League title next season.

And despite recent suggestions that they may push ahead with what they already have at right-back, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is edging ever closer to becoming a Liverpool player.

Frimpong is available for around £30m given the presence of a release clause in his contract. And with the summer window yet to even open, Liverpool are deep in discussions ahead of triggering it.

Given how attacking Frimpong is seen to be, it is perhaps something of a surprise to some supporters that he is the man Liverpool have chosen to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Nevertheless, the Dutchman is clearly a very good player, with pace being one of his key attributes. And having played with Frimpong at Celtic, centre-back Christopher Jullien has spoken out about exactly how fast Liverpool’s new signing in waiting really is.

Liverpool told to expect sheer pace from Jeremie Frimpong

As Frimpong is seen as more of a wing-back than an orthodox right full-back, some supporters have expressed reservations over his signing.

However, what is clear is that the 24-year-old is the type of player who can excite fans with his pace and direct approach.

And according to Jullien, the sheer speed of Frimpong made him a nightmare to face in training at Celtic.

“That’s not a good thing to talk about with me!” laughed the Frenchman, in conversation with The Redmen TV.

“Sometimes he was too difficult for me on the outside. His pace, the difference he was making. The thing I really liked was in some moments he knew he was just so fast, he knew how fast he is. Sometimes he was just not doing a lot of dribbling, inside, outside, push, he was just so efficient.

“He knew his strength and he was doing simple stuff, inside, outside, cross. It was so simple for the team and the striker we had was so happy about how he was bringing the game to them.”

“As a right-back he’s the best I ever played with, 100 per cent,” Jullien added. “His story how he came and now he’s in this position makes it even better.”

How close is Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool?

This all sounds very promising from Jullien, and barring anything unexpected happening in the coming days, Frimpong will be showcasing his speed at Anfield next season.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Friday, the deal is now at the ‘final stages.’
