Liverpool will head into the summer as Premier League champions, having won the title at a canter, but that doesn't mean they're not in need of bolstering their squad.

Sporting director Richard Hughes has nailed down contract extensions for key stars Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, but other areas require a look-in - particularly if more players are set to leave Arne Slot's squad. Trent Alexander-Arnold has already announced his exit, with only the date of his move to Real Madrid left up in the air.

Darwin Nunez might also be on his way out, given the rumoured interest from Saudi, while there's uncertainty surrounding fringe players like Harvey Elliott and Caoimhin Kelleher. And they have been linked with moves for two Bundesliga standouts - German football's golden boy Florian Wirtz and his Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong.

The 20-time league winners are set to face Brighton on Monday night before wrapping up their season at home against Crystal Palace on May 25. Their draw against Arsenal at Anfield last time saw the Reds surpass the points total from Jurgen Klopp's final season, but it might take more to hold onto their title next season. Here's all the transfer latest from Anfield.

Reds in Nkunku battle

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a shock swoop for Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku come summer. The French forward's stint in West London has been marred by injuries, and Enzo Maresca's squad might look to offload him in the next transfer window.

However, the Reds aren't the only ones interested. Foot Mercato suggests that Premier League rivals Newcastle and German giants Bayern Munich are also sniffing around.

Nkunku bagged an impressive 58 goals in his last two seasons with RB Leipzig, but his tally has dipped to 17 over two terms at Chelsea. This season's Conference League has seen him score seven times, helping his team set up a final showdown with Real Betis.

Alonso gives Wirtz verdict

Xabi Alonso has been reaping the rewards of Florian Wirtz's talent at Bayer Leverkusen, sparking chatter about a potential move to Real Madrid. Yet, Alonso played it coy regarding the future of the midfielder, who's also caught Liverpool's eye.

"Whatever he does, I am really close to Flo and I will be happy for him," Alonso remarked, as cited by the Liverpool Echo, while praising the lad as world-class.

"Let's wait a little bit. It's normal in football that there are rumours, especially with such a special player.

"There were rumours (in the past), there are rumours today and there will be rumours in the future. You need to deal with them and not take them too seriously."

Frimpong's farewell message

Jeremie Frimpong is the clear favourite to fill the right-back spot as Liverpool seek to replace Alexander-Arnold, reports the Mirror.

As Liverpool continue to be linked with Frimpong, the spotlight has swung back to his departure from Celtic.

The Dutch defender was a fan favourite in Glasgow but opted for a switch to Bayer Leverkusen after just a year and a half.

"I wanna thank all my team-mates for their help, the gaffer for his trust and the Celtic fans for their love," he expressed post-move to the Bundesliga. "I will forever be grateful to Celtic and I wish you all the best for the future."

The transfer, however, left Celtic's then-boss Neil Lennon feeling somewhat abandoned. "Yes, I feel a bit let down because we felt we could progress him further," Lennon remarked at that time.

"We offered him a new deal which would have kept him here for another two or three years but it was down to the player's personal ambition."
