Nottingham Forest refuse to spend £29.5m on Premier League midfielder -report

While Nottingham Forest do have money to spend in the summer, Evangelos Marinakis won’t be rushed into deals that do not represent good value.

It has already been revealed that, regardless of which European competition they qualify for, Forest will spend serious money in the summer, but only on the right players.

Nuno Espírito Santo will be desperately looking for a striker to add to his Forest squad, with Liam Delap’s relegation release clause certainly tempting.

The price must be right on any addition, though, and one linked player from a Premier League club has an asking price that Marinakis isn’t too keen on.

Nottingham Forest put off by Andreas Pereira’s asking price

Forest are looking at Andreas Pereira from Fulham as an extra creative spark in midfield, perhaps attracted to the Brazilian due to his contract entering its final year.

It doesn’t seem like Fulham are taking this into account, though, as a report from RTI Esporte in Brazil has claimed that Forest have been put off by their Premier League rivals’ demands.

The report stems from Brazilian side Flamengo’s interest in Pereira and says: “Fulham have set a price of 35 million euros to release the player. Andreas Pereira has a contract with the English club until June 2026.

“[…] José Boto, Flamengo’s sporting director, has information that Nottingham Forest and Olympique de Marseille, clubs that are better off financially than Rubro-Negro, also do not intend to spend this amount on the player.”

It seems unlikely that Flamengo would be willing to pay £29.5m for Pereira either, but they might still be his most likely destination given his feelings about the club.

Andreas Pereira has a strong connection with Flamengo

In their hunt for an attacking midfielder, Forest have been linked with Mateus Fernandes of Southampton as well as Pereira, and the Saints man may well be the more likely option.

Pereira spent a year on loan at Flamengo back in the 2021/22 season and instantly fell in love with the club, so much so that he admitted he did not want to leave.

In a farewell Instagram post, Pereira wrote: “I love Flamengo. And no one can change that, or take it away from me.

“I want to thank Marcos Braz, Bruno Spindel and everyone who worked hard to make sure I could live this unforgettable experience. I know they fought until the end so I could stay.

“Today, we are parting ways as athletes. But I join this entire nation, and I know that it will always be with me, supporting me until I return to the home I chose to love”

It seems then, even if Fulham reduce Pereira’s asking price, it will be difficult to persuade him not to return to his beloved Flamengo.
