Liverpool have reached a full agreement to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen ahead of the summer transfer window.
Transfer expert [Fabrizio Romano](https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1923763873112277429?t=MniJFq--wtdkyTkumbIRTQ&s=19) confirmed the deal on Saturday, with the Dutch right-back set to join the Premier League champions after agreeing personal terms and a five-year contract.
Frimpong will undergo a medical in the coming days before officially completing the move, which will see Liverpool activate his €35 million (£29.6m) release clause. The final fee could rise to around €40 million when including solidarity payments to his former clubs.
The 24-year-old becomes the club’s first summer signing, arriving to reinforce a position that will soon be vacated by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to join Real Madrid.
Frimpong has enjoyed a standout campaign under Xabi Alonso, helping Leverkusen clinch the Bundesliga title without losing a single game. He registered 14 goals and 12 assists across 47 appearances in all competitions.
A key figure in Alonso’s flexible system, Frimpong has often operated as a wing-back or even a winger, offering electric pace and verticality down the right flank. His attacking output has made him one of Europe’s most productive full-backs.
Despite his offensive strengths, he will face a new tactical challenge at Liverpool, where he may need to adopt a more balanced role under Slot. Ibrahima Konate’s ability to cover wide areas could help facilitate his integration.
Conor Bradley, [who signed a new four-year contract earlier on Saturday](https://footballtoday.com/2025/05/17/conor-bradley-pens-news-liverpool-contract/), will provide direct competition for the right-back spot. The 20-year-old impressed last season and remains highly rated at Anfield.
Frimpong, a former Manchester City youth player, previously played for Celtic before moving to Leverkusen in 2021. He has since established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s standout performers.
He has also featured regularly for the Netherlands national team, with experience at both wing-back and full-back. That versatility could prove valuable as Liverpool reshape their defensive structure under Slot.
The club’s decision to trigger Frimpong’s release clause reflects both confidence in his talent and the urgency of replacing Alexander-Arnold’s influence on the right flank.
Liverpool’s swift move for the Leverkusen star signals their intent to maintain momentum under Arne Slot, with Frimpong expected to bring energy, creativity and attacking depth to the side.
