Tottenham have suffered a big blow as top target Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen has joined Real Madrid
Tottenham Hotspur suffered their 21st defeat of the Premier League season at the hands of Aston Villa on Friday. Goals from Ezri Konsa and Boubacar Kamara condemned Ange Postecoglou’s side to yet another loss in the league.
Now, all eyes are on the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United in Bilbao on May 21. Victory in Spain will open the North London club’s door to the Champions League, salvaging their season to some extent. However, even the European trophy may not be enough to save their transfer window, as one of Spurs’ top targets, Dean Huijsen, has joined Real Madrid.
Tottenham have been keeping tabs on Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen since the turn of the year. The youngster has been fantastic since joining Bournemouth from Juventus last summer, adapting to the demands of Premier League football like a duck to water.

As a result, interest in the Spanish international’s services was high. Huijsen was identified by Tottenham as a potential replacement for Cristian Romero, who is heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. However, Spurs have now missed out on their top defensive target to Real Madrid.
Real Madrid have officially confirmed the capture of Huijsen from the Cherries. Earlier, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano had revealed that the Spanish giants had paid the defender’s £50m release clause, signing him a contract until 2030 after he passed his medical in London on Friday afternoon.
Losing the highly coveted Huijsen to Real Madrid is a big blow for Tottenham, but not surprising. The Lilywhites realistically had very slim chances to land him, especially given how the season had panned out. The Amsterdam-born talent has high ambitions, which Spurs at this point may have been able to match.

While other targets may be waiting to see if Ange Postecoglou’s side win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League, 21 league defeats in a single season with a game left to go is utterly embarrassing and unacceptable. Failure to beat United in the European final will lead to massive ramifications, with former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson claiming that no European football will leave the club in a “big mess”.
