THE [Cherries](http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/cherries/clubnews/) face a tough test against ‘the best side’ they have faced this season in Brentford in the Professional Development League final.

Alan Connell said the 8-1 victory over the Bees back in March was perhaps not representative of the strength of their opponents in the final, but it was one they could take some confidence from.

That result arguably sealed the Cherries’ spot at the summit of the South Group, with Brentford needing to overturn a 14-goal goal difference to overhaul them at the top of the group in their final game.

But they were unable to do that – meaning the Cherries secured a home draw in the playoff semifinals, and they will be at home once again in the final on Wednesday.

Looking ahead to the final, Connell reflected on that thumping win over Brentford, and told the Daily Echo: “Brentford were missing a few players that day.

“We've had some tough games against them this season. They've got players back from loans. They are the best team we've played this season, not probably in that particular game.

“Like I said, they were missing a few but it's going to be a real high-level game. They're very well coached, some exceptional players. So I think it's going to be a real fine margins game.”

Connell was a little frustrated with his side after the Burnley victory, after they conceded twice in the final minutes to set up a nervy finish.

He said lessons would need to be learned from that, saying: “We're going to need to make sure that we tighten up in certain areas for the final because Brentford have got some exceptional players and they're a very, very good team.

“We need to be aware of their threats, which we will be.”
