'No way': Alan Shearer surprised as legend answers Newcastle question in emphatic fashion

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer was left shocked while watching the FA Cup final between Crystal Palace and Manchester City.

Shearer was at Wembley as Palace joined Newcastle United in making history this season. Oliver Glasner’s side won the FA Cup final against City, with Newcastle transfer target Eberechi Eze scoring the winner. Indeed, both teams ended their trophy droughts by lifting major domestic silverware.

In the first half at Wembley, City were awarded a penalty. Erling Haaland briefly grabbed the ball but quickly gave it to teammate Omar Marmoush, who saw his spot-kick saved by Dean Henderson.

Watching on while on commentary, Shearer was shocked. He said on BBC One: “That’s a big surprise to me.”

Alan Shearer reacts to Erling Haaland penalty decision in FA Cup final

Shearer was asked whether or not he’d have allowed former teammate Rob Lee to take a penalty off him if ex-Toon boss Kevin Keegan asked.

Naturally, the Newcastle United legend claimed that just would not happen.

Again speaking on BBC One, he said: “There’s absolutely no way anyone is saying to me ‘you’re not taking a penalty if we get a penalty today’.

“Whether he’s [Haaland] missed three this season or whatever it is, you’re fit and you’re on the pitch.

Newcastle United interested in a striker Erling Haaland loves

It’ll be interesting to see what happens on the striker front for Newcastle this summer.

Callum Wilson is expected to leave Newcastle when his contract expires at the end of the season, meaning Alexander Isak will need a back-up option behind him.

Newcastle are interested in signing Liam Delap this summer but the Ipswich forward isn’t the only name thought to be on the radar.

Indeed, Newcastle are interested in Atletico Madrid star Alexander Sorloth, who has previously been hailed as the ‘King of the North’ by Haaland on Instagram.

It’s tough to imagine they’ll be able to tempt him to St James’ Park only to serve as Isak’s back-up but the interest is noteworthy.

It seems Newcastle will look to land a new striker this summer. William Osula could leave Newcastle on loan too, which makes the need to bring in a new option all the more pressing.
