Oliver Glasner said his Crystal Palace squad have written themselves into the club’s history after lifting the FA Cup following a 1-0 win over Manchester City at Wembley.
The Eagles won their first major piece of silverware thanks to Eberechi Eze’s first-half strike, with the Greenwich-born attacker sweeping home a Daniel Munoz cross.
Dean Henderson stopped Omar Marmoush’s penalty in the 36th minute after Tyrick Mitchell brought down Bernardo Silva inside the penalty box.
Glasner’s side only had 21 per cent possession during the game, but threw their bodies on the line to lift the trophy.
“This connection stays forever,” said Glasner.
“The connection between the players and Crystal Palace will stay forever. I’m pretty sure that if Jean-Philippe Mateta watches a game at Selhurst Park in 30 years, the fans will celebrate him.
“This will be the same with all the other players. It’s massive what everyone has done for the club.
“This is a special motivation. We wanted to write history and now we have written a big chapter in history.
“We will start to write a new chapter next year, playing in Europe for the first time.”
