Report: Everton are already planning to make a major change to Goodison Park this summer

The day has finally come, Everton’s last ever game at Goodison Park.

Everton welcome Southampton to Goodison Park at 12pm, in what’s set to be an incredibly emotional game for supporters and the team.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho have opened up about their love for Goodison, which has been the Toffees’ home for 133 years.

There have been suggestions that the Everton players will wear a special edition kit to mark the historical occasion, though, nothing has been confirmed on that front.

The Women’s team will play at the Grand Old Lady from next season, and already there is set to be a major change to the ground this summer.

Everton set to make major change to Goodison Park

Everton announced earlier this week that the Women’s team will move into Goodison Park.

Part of the statement read: “Regarded as one of football’s most iconic stadiums, Goodison Park is set for a powerful new chapter — as the permanent home of Everton Women.

“The Club this week confirmed that, following the men’s move to Bramley-Moore Dock this summer, the Grand Old Lady will continue to roar — with Everton Women stepping into centre stage from the 2025/26 season.”

Ahead of the stadium move, the Toffees are planning to make a major change to Goodison, with the capacity set to be reduced.

That’s according to BBC Sport, who report the club are keen to make the stadium more intimate, with Everton Women currently averaging an attendance of 2,062.

The Main Stand’s top balcony, the Upper Bullens Road Stand and the upper tier of the Howard Kendall Gwladys Street End will not be in use from next season, instead, it will be covered in club branding.

Seats will be reduced per row

As part of reducing the capacity, Everton are also planning to reduce the number of seats per row, making more space for supporters.

It will be a lot easier to manage from a health and safety perspective, with current costs on that front through the roof.

Everton Women’s captain Megan Finnigan can’t wait to play on the hallowed Goodison turf.

“To walk out at Goodison Park as our permanent home will be a real honour,” Finnigan explained. “It’s where we belong — and we can’t wait to create new memories there.”
