Leeds United have two options before Jamie Vardy transfer decision

Back in the Premier League and in need of firepower, Leeds United are in the market for proven names to join their squad.

The latest centre-forward to have been linked with a move to Leeds is Jamie Vardy. The 38-year-old recently announced that he would be leaving his beloved Leicester City at the end of the season. It will be an emotional exit for the Englishman, but the search has begun for his next club.

Vardy is a Premier League and FA Cup winner with the Foxes. He also won the Golden Boot in the 2019/20 season with an impressive 23 goals in 35 appearances. An experienced player with that list of honours would likely grab interest from plenty of clubs - especially due to Vardy leaving on a free transfer.

However, it isn't just the loyal Leicester man that Daniel Farke's side have been linked with in the attacking areas. Newcastle's Callum Wilson and West Ham's Tomas Soucek have also been connected. But how could each of these players fit into a progressing Leeds side? Leeds Live have answered that question.

Jamie Vardy

The former England-international may be turning 39 next year, but he still carries a threat upfront. He has managed to score eight goals and register five assists during a torrid season for Leicester. Leeds have had a few close draws this season, and someone like Vardy could be the one to make a difference with a critical goal.

His experience off the pitch could be just as valuable. During his 13-years with the Foxes, Vardy has experienced title fights, cup finals, relegation battles and European scraps. His mindset could help Farke's squad in what could be a challenging return to the Premier League.

When it comes to Vardy’s playing style, he's a striker that loves sharp runs in behind the opposition back-line. Despite his age, the 38-year-old has the pace to press from the front and make quick transitions, something that Farke's side are familiar with.

Callum Wilson

For Leeds to not end up like last years promoted sides - who are now all relegated - they need goals, experience and composure in key moments, something that Wilson can provide. The Magpie, like Vardy, will also be available for free this summer due to his contract with Newcastle running out.

Wilson has been a consistent performer at Newcastle since he moved there from Bournemouth where he was also a stellar striker. Unfortunately he has been replaced up front by Alexander Isak as Eddie Howe's No.1 this season, but he will be wanting to show his worth at a new club next year.

The 33-year-old thrives when surrounded by creative players. Luckily for Farke, he has an abundance of those with Daniel James, Ao Tanaka and Brenden Aaronson just a few examples. If Joel Piroe can make the step up to the Premier League, the two could form a strong striking partnership up front.

Tomas Soucek

Leeds United would have to pay for Soucek

Leeds United would have to pay for Soucek

The Soucek name isn't likely to carry the weight and excitement of Vardy for example, but what the Czech midfielder does bring is a return to a gritty and battle-tested playing style which can be crucial for a newly promoted side. Bigger teams will likely try and push Leeds around, but Soucek could make the difference in the middle of the park.

The 30-year-old can play in a defensive midfield position, centrally and also in a more attack minded role. His versatility gives Farke more options to change and adapt his team throughout the season.

Soucek is also a goalscorer - he is one goal away from going two seasons in a row with 10 goals. The West Ham star also captains his national side and is well-respected in the Irons' squad. He could provide a mature and calm presence in a relatively young Leeds side.

The elephant in the room regarding Soucek is his price. Unlikes Vardy and Wilson, the Czech international will not be free due to his contract expiring in 2027. His current market value sits at £18.4m according to transfermarkt, but West Ham would likely want more due to his importance within the team.
